matthew gillespie

Originally from Asheville, NC, Matthew is an active composer, keyboardist, and teacher, and a founder member of Alia Musica Pittsburgh. He is currently completing a PhD in Composition and Theory at the University of Pittsburgh, where he has studied with Matthew Rosenblum, Amy Williams, and Eric Moe; his previous teachers include Ed Jacobs, Craig Walsh, and Eddie Bass. Texture and gesture are, increasingly, the driving factors in his music, rather than melody and harmony—the result of a number of influences, both new and old.
