alia musica Pittsburgh was created in September 2006 by a group of young composers based in the city, with the aim of joining the cultivation of new music in Pittsburgh. The organization is primarily devoted to performing music written in the city, and to collaborating with other local music groups and artistic explorations of any kind.

alia musica has earned a place in the Pittsburgh musical scene by bringing to city audiences the music created in their time and place. Throughout its existence, its events have met with the enthusiastic support of institutions, colleagues, professors, and public alike.

The group, in residence at the Hope Academy of Music and the Arts, has recently been awarded a Sprout Fund from the Sprout Fund, which will help launching the on-coming events of the 2007–8 season.
